A Decade of Marketing - the C i Marketing Journey
In the wake of Christchurch's devastating 2011 earthquake, C i Marketing was born. Join Elizabeth as she chronicles a journey of resilience, reinvention, and the unwavering spirit of a team determined to thrive against all odds.
The Beginning
February 2011 saw Christchurch in turmoil with a devastating earthquake, which took lives, homes and jobs and changed our city forever. I have always been a believer that you have multiple paths you can choose from when a challenge presents itself and the events in Christchurch certainly presented a challenge.
Having worked in the Tourism industry and being made redundant due to the earthquake, I was offered a marketing contract within the tourism industry. Together with my Dad; Laurie, a very successful owner-operator of elevator lift component company Cirrus International Ltd, we created Cirrus International - Marketing. What started as a way to secure a contract turned into so much more! A family legacy with me following in my father’s footsteps, being guided and inspired by his experience and customer first value system, while having the autonomy to develop the brand in my own way.
The Middle
Over the years we found ourselves specialising in services marketing, in particular, tourism, but that presented new challenges once again when COVID-19 hit. We took the time during lockdown to completely re-evaluate our business, what we wanted to do and once lockdown was over, we held our own strategy workshop and created an entirely new direction for our services and who we wanted to work with. Taking ourselves through the very process we take our clients through was an incredibly positive experience and watching the words we wrote in our very own strategy document almost come alive off the page and become our reality with new clients and those new clients wanting our new services was for me, one of the most exciting moments in our ten year history. We had taken the challenge presented to us (our main industry for clients temporarily ground to a halt) and turned it into something super exciting for us to build on.
As the business grew, I recognised the need to brand the business in its own right but, as a nod to my Dad’s legacy, wanted to retain some connection with Cirrus International…..the more I thought about it, the more C i Marketing made sense, especially considering the alignment with the number of marketing terminology starting with C and i…..Collaboration - Insights, Creativity - Inspiration, Content – Impressions etc.
Today
Now, based in our third office since the beginning (due to growth), the C i Marketing family is a team of five like minded marketing resources, each bringing general marketing experience and specialist skills. And, each of us are multi-dimensional, meaning you are likely to work with us across a number of projects, cementing our relationship and proving our expertise as we navigate the journey together. Each are motivated to complete the company vision of assisting businesses to succeed with their marketing, with the aim of bringing service back to the service industry.
Our team are easy-going as well as hard working and it is an absolute pleasure to come to work every day. Each and every one of us feel that we belong to the C i Marketing family and I believe that shines through our personalities and the way we welcome our clients into our marketing family too. We share good times and bad together, we share in our clients’ successes and our own, I am so incredibly lucky to work alongside the most amazing colleagues, contractors, suppliers and clients - there really is nowhere else I’d rather be.
